CMU Libraries play an important role in supporting research and instructional activities for faculty and students. The library holds more than 1.7 million physical and electronic materials in a variety of formats, languages, and subjects for all disciplines.

Book Collections
Curated to support student learning, degree programs and cirricula, we own over 671,000 print titles and provide online access to over 709,000 ebooks, which can be searched using
Library Smart Search.

We provide access to over 200 online databases that users can find on the disciplinary subjects or an A-Z list.

With over 9,300 print volumes and access to over 114,000 electronic serial titles, we offer  a large collection of journals to support user's research and learning needs. View the A-Z list.

The complete collection of online newspapers can be discovered through Smart Search by limiting your search to newspapers. We have multiple print subscriptions to local, state, national and international newspapers. For more information, please visit the library guide for newspaper collection.

Betty A McDonald Children’s Collection
Betty A McDonald Children’s Collection  
The Betty A. McDonald Children’s Literature Collection consists of over 25,000 volumes of outstanding works for young people, including picture books as well as fiction and nonfiction books for children and young adults. The collection is located on the 4th floor of Park Library. Many of the books contained in the collection are award-winning titles of prestigious children’s literature prizes such as the Caldecott, Newberry, and Coretta Scott King awards. Clarke Children's Material
Clarke Historical Library
The Clarke Historical Library collects, preserves, and promotes nationally recognized collections including materials on the history of Michigan and the Old Northwest Territory, the history of Central Michigan University, children's literature, campaign biographies of United States presidential candidates, the history of angling, and historic Michigan newspapers.

CMU Scholarly and Creative Works 
CMU Scholarly and Creative Works is an online repository currently providing open access to 1,130 CMU Graduate Research (These and Dissertations), 61 CMU Undergraduate Research, and 202 CMU Faculty/Staff Research. 

Art Collection
Art Collection
The Central Michigan University Art Collection has over 700 unique works of art created by alumni and nationally recognized artists, and new acquisitions are continually added. The works are displayed throughout the campus and range from monumental sculptures to prints, paintings, fiber art, ceramics and drawings. Artworks are exhibited throughout Park Library, which is steward to the majority of the collection.  

Films/Videos/Streaming Media/Sound Recordings
Audio and Video

Government Documents
Government Documents  
The CMU Library has been a selective government documents depository library since 1958 and provides access to more than 500,000 publications of the United States government. Our collection consists of print, microform, and online items. Users can use Library Smart Search and GPO Monthly Catalog to access the collection.

Legal Materials
Legal materials 
CMU Libraries provide access to major legal resources through 2 databases Westlaw and HeinOnline.  Remote access to these databases is limited to individuals with a CMU email address.

Music Scores
Music Resources 
The CMU Libraries also maintain a collection of music. This collection includes over 7,700 physical scores available on the 4th floor of Park Library, as well as electronic scores accessible through Smart Search. For more information on music scores, please see this guide. Additionally, over 11,000 CDs and 6,000 LPs are available at the Music Resource Center in the School of Music.

Open Access
Open access  
Open access is a term for barrier-free online access to scholarly literature. The CMU Libraries promote the use of quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals by inserting open access journal titles into the CMU library catalog Library Smart Search—thereby increasing the visibility of these journals. Users can search for open access publications from a variety of sources: SmartSearchWeb of ScienceDirectory of Open Access Journals, or ROAR.

Park Library Building
Park Library
Park Library is located on main campus Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. The University Library and Clarke Historical Library are both in the Park Library building with other academic support unites. Renovated in 2002, the magnificent building is housing physical formats of collections including print books, periodicals, print government documents, microform, maps, videos, and electronic collections in Park Library.
