The Civil War materials, 1861-1864, discuss the weather; drills; skirmishes; major General A. E. Burnside's military failures; heavy losses; U.S. Colored Troops; and marches to Bardston, Lebanon, Jamestown, and Memphis (TN). Bio: Hodskin, born on Aug. 22, 1837, moved to Battle Creek (MI). He served in the Michigan Infantry 2nd Regiment during the Civil War and was eventually honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1864. He died on Feb. 18, 1905, in Manistee (MI).
