What forms of payment does CMU accept?
Central Michigan University’s Student Accounts and University Billing Office accepts checks and major credit cards. Contact them for more information at 989-774-3618 or We also accept IFLA vouchers. Contact Documents on Demand directly for IFLA voucher payment, or invoice questions.

Do you require a paper ALA request form?
No, the first time you request an item from us, we prefer that you send your request by email to  After we create an account for your library, future requests can be submitted through our ILLiad Lending webpage. Please send complete contact information with your first request including library or institution name, complete mailing address (if you have a PO Box, please also include your street address), email address, fax number and telephone number.

Can you deliver my article electronically?
Yes, we prefer to email PDF or TIFF attachments when possible. We can also deliver your article via U.S. Postal Service or MeL Delivery/RIDES.

Do you participate in MeL Delivery/RIDES?
Yes, we have 5 day-a-week pick-up and delivery. We prefer this method of book delivery for participating Michigan libraries. Our delivery code is 100-ZA001.

Do you participate in MeLCat?
Yes, patrons at participating libraries can request items from our library via MeLCat.

If I request a book or other non-returnable item, how will you ship it?
We ship via MeL Delivery/RIDES for participating Michigan libraries, international express airmail for libraries outside the U.S., UPS ground service for most others. We do not ship via Library Rate or Book Rate.

Do you require your materials to be returned by UPS, or is Library Rate ok?
We prefer our items to be returned via a traceable courier service, but do not require it except for DVD or VHS items.

Do you lend A/V items?
We do loan our music CDs and DVD/VHS items for a short loan period of 14 days between libraries. These items must be returned in a box. We ship all media in appropriate media boxes and encourage borrowers to reuse our boxes to return our items.

Do you lend microfilm?
We lend microfilm and microfiche newspapers, manuscripts and books. We DO NOT loan other microfilm periodicals.

Do you lend materials from the Clarke Historical Library?
None of the materials housed in the Clarke circulate, but photocopies of selected pages can be made from some titles. Questions regarding specific titles can be referred to the Clarke staff directly;, please include the words “reference request” in the subject of your message.

Do you loan CMU theses?
In most cases, yes. However, there are a few titles that do not circulate. Many titles are available electronically and can be delivered as a PDF attachment.

Do you grant renewals on returnable items?
In most cases, yes. If the item is not past due you may request a renewal through the “View Shipped Items” page in your ILLiad account. You may also request renewals via email or phone. A/V items may only have a maximum of one renewal and micro items may NOT be renewed. If a CMU patron has placed a hold on the item, we will not grant a renewal to the borrowing library.​

We accept Lending requests from non-OCLC WRS libraries.
If this is your first time submitting a request, please send an email to and we will create an account for your library in our system, ILLiad, where you may login to our Lending Webpages and submit future requests.

My library has an account in your system, but we lost our user name or password.

We lend:

  • Books for 28 days
  • Micro items for 21 days
  • A/V items for 14 days

Our charges are:
Our base charge is $12.00 U.S. per request, but we prefer to work on a reciprocal basis. If your library does not charge others for ILL, generally, we won’t charge you. We also do not charge most libraries in the state of Michigan. We reserve the right to require a lending charge, but we will not fill any request without approving charges with the borrowing library first.
