The Library Research and Instruction Services department provides research assistance to CMU students, faculty, and staff. The librarians in the department help individuals navigate the library’s services and resources, as well as the larger online world, to find the information they need to complete their assignments and their research. Help is available in person on the 2nd floor of the Park Library, via email, online form, and chat for added convenience. For more in-depth assistance, one-on-one research consultations with a librarian can be scheduled.
The department also provides instruction in the use of the library to CMU classes and groups. Through its LIB 197 course it allows students to deeply explore how information is created, accessed, and used in today’s society. A goal of the department’s instructional efforts is the facilitation of students’ development as knowledge creators, lifelong learners, and participants in academic and scholarly activity. The librarians regularly work with faculty to integrate information literacy skills training into classrooms and courses.
