During the fall of 2015, the CMU Libraries undertook a master planning process to determine future uses of spaces within the library building.
The area on the south end of the third floor was selected as an ideal location for the Writing Center and Math Assistance Center. Currently,
both centers are located in the east hallway on the 4th floor and are not easily seen from the atrium. The third floor space is highly visible
and will provide a slightly larger space for both centers. Construction of the relocated centers will begin in June 2017.
Currently, the south end of the third floor contains a mix of tables and carrels seating up to 112 students. The tables will be relocated to other spaces on the 3rd floor.
The bound periodicals which are shelved on the third floor will be downsized with the goal of removing the shelving on the far east side of the floor and replacing it with new study spaces. Much of the content in the bound periodicals is available online; the Libraries' will retain the bound periodicals for which we do not have online access.
