Procedures for Requesting an Individual Research Room

  • Requests for study room assignments are available on our website at under the Services tab/Book a Room.
  • All applicants will be notified of a decision by email.
  • The key for your study room is located at the Book Checkout Desk located on the 2nd floor of the library.


  • Applicants may request a renewal for one academic year after their initial year of usage. After that time priority will be given to new applicants and renewals will be granted only if rooms are available.
  • Renewal request notifications will be delivered to the study rooms approximately four weeks prior to their initial assignment expiring.
  • Renewal requests must be submitted prior to the expiration date using the online request form.
  • Renewals will not be granted to:
    • Persons who have not made extensive use of the study room space.
    • Persons who have violated any study room policies.

Policies Governing the Use of Individual Research Rooms

  • First time use of your key requires filling out an Individual Research Room Key Receipt form.
  • The key will be checked out only to the person to whom the study room is assigned.
  • The key must be checked out each time you use the room and returned 15 minutes before the library closes.
  • If the key is lost or not returned there will be a $50.00 replacement charge.
  • Rooms are available only during hours the library is open.
  • In order to accommodate the demand for Individual Research Rooms, usage is routinely monitored and rooms that have been checked out less than 6 times per semester may be reassigned.
  • Personal furniture is not allowed and additional library furniture is not to be moved in to the room nor should furniture be removed.
  • Posters and other items should not be affixed to study room walls or windows.
  • No food is allowed, drinks are allowed in spill proof containers only.
  • All library material must be checked out. Material that cannot be checked out, such as reference books, journals, etc. cannot be kept in the room.
  • Library staff will check study rooms periodically. Material not checked out will be removed and returned to the shelves.
  • All individuals assigned an Individual Research Room are expected to follow all Park Library policies.

Violation of any policy may result in room privileges being terminated

Central Michigan University Libraries is not responsible for any items that are lost.
