Two Central Michigan University women to be honored for outstanding leadership

CMU American Council on Education recognizes women’s achievements in higher education

Two Central Michigan University employees will be honored next week for their commitment to empower women.

Ann Marie Krzyzaniak and Diane Marble have been selected as recipients of the Women of Excellence awards by the CMU American Council on Education, an initiative of the CMU Network for Women.

Krzyzaniak, Ann Krzyzaniak.jpgthe residence hall director in Trout Hall, has mentored and empowered hundreds of women over the span of her nearly nine years at CMU. Krzyzaniak inspires women to pursue leadership opportunities, master's degrees and administrative positions.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without Ann," said Cobb Hall Director Jamie Herrygers, who was hired by Krzyzaniak as a resident assistant in 2011. "She has undoubtedly created a legacy that makes those who work under her feel privileged to learn not just tangible leadership skills, but life lessons that transcend beyond the hallways of Trout Hall."

Diane Marble.jpgMarble's colleagues admire her for her ability to promote inclusivity and compassion through her leadership. She is the interim director for teaching and learning in the CMU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

"She is most satisfied when she can lift up those around her and celebrate their accomplishments rather than her own," said Sarah Scoby, communications, web and events coordinator for CETL. "Diane goes above and beyond her day-to-day responsibilities by not only being a mentor and leader, but also a great friend to those in her charge, others on campus and in her community."

Marble, a former Dow Chemical Co. employee, has volunteered her time with Big Sisters Big Brothers for nearly 30 years, serves as a board member for Ministries of Hope in Midland, and was instrumental in creating the Graduate Teaching Workshop Series for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Krzyzaniak and Marble will be honored at the Women of Excellence reception on Tuesday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. in the Bovee University Center Terrace A and B rooms. The event is free and open to the public and dessert and refreshments will be served.
