Four finalists to be the next athletics director at Central Michigan University will visit campus for interviews beginning May 1.

Bob Martin, vice president for advancement and chair of the 16-member search committee, said the field was narrowed after a national search. Each candidate will have four interviews at CMU, meeting with President George E. Ross, the president's cabinet, head coaches and senior athletic department staff, and the search committee.

"We attracted an impressive group of candidates, and our finalists all have extensive Division I experience in Power Five conferences," Martin said. "These are quality people who have been successful at the highest levels and have a history of serving student-athletes."

The finalists are:

  • Mike Harrity, senior associate athletics director for student-athlete services at the University of Notre Dame. Interviews are scheduled for May 1.
  • Chris King, director of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Interviews will take place May 2.
  • Michael Alford, senior associate athletics director for administration and development at the University of Oklahoma. Interviews are scheduled for May 8.
  • Marie Tuite, interim athletics director at San Jose State University. Interviews will take place May 9.

The next athletics director will replace Dave Heeke, who served in the role for 11 years before leaving in April for the lead athletics role at the University of Arizona.

Ross outlined his vision for the search in the late February announcement about Heeke's departure: "We will seek candidates committed to furthering our championship culture, who agree that athletes are students first and who have an unwavering commitment to upholding CMU's reputation as one of just 13 universities without a major NCAA violation.

"We seek a leader who represents all that CMU is, who is an excellent fundraiser and who will be an integral member of the CMU community."
