BCA 2018 highlight reel

​Students and faculty in the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts have been hard at work. Here's a collection of their awards and accomplishments:

Faculty 

• Rick Sykes was reappointed as chair of the scholarship committee for the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation. He also took part in a panel debate on cultural appropriation at the 2018 Windsor International Writers Conference.
• Maggie Mayes and Kevin Campbell constructed a new summer course that includes classroom discussion and fieldwork at the 2019 St. Jerome Fancy Farm Picnic in Kentucky. Students enrolled in the course will visit Kentucky Educational Television in Lexington, Kentucky, as well as meet with local and national media.  
• Patty Williamson was named CMU Outstanding Honors Professor of the Year for the 2017-2018 academic year. 
• Will Anderson presented his paper "Walter Winchell: Lessons of a Red Scare Yellow Journalist in the Age of Hannity" at the Midwest Popular Culture Association conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.  
• "Nor Any Drop to Drink" produced by Cedric Taylor, Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work faculty member; Eric Limarenko, School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts faculty; Dan Bracken, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences staff; and BCA alum Don Blubaugh was screened at The Michigan Theater on Sept. 11 as part of an event focusing on the Flint water crisis. The film also was accepted to the Twin Cities Film Fest in Minnesota. 
• Will Anderson's audio drama script "Remit Payment: A Student Loans Horror Story" was performed at The Robin Theatre by Lansing's Audio Air Force drama troupe. His script was mentioned in an article in the Lansing State Journal. 
• Sarah Adams created a curriculum called "Teaching Mindfulness in Elementary Schools" which was featured on WCMU Public Media during its segments "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition".  
• Patty Williamson, Tiffani Doyel and Chris Csont presented "Using Yammer as a Communication Tool at Central Michigan University: A Case Study" at the BEA On-Location conference in Houston, Texas.

Students

• Graduate students Savanna Newton, Brittney Antonelli and Laura Shureb served as runners for MSNBC's "All In" with Chris Hayes on Sept. 11 in Flint.
