Dr. George Kikano, dean of the Central Michigan University College of Medicine, has been selected for the 12th consecutive year as one of the best doctors in America.
Since 2003 Kikano has been included on the prestigious “Best Doctors in America” list. Physicians are selected by thousands of fellow doctors nationwide who participate in an extensive, impartial peer-review survey.
Only 5 percent of all U.S. doctors are included.
“I am humbled to be selected by colleagues for this honor,” Kikano said. “It is a privilege for me to be able to take care of patients and families. In addition to my role as dean, I am looking forward to serving communities in the Great Lakes Bay Region.”
Kikano was appointed dean of the College of Medicine in February and assumed his full time duties July 1. His background includes extensive work as a family medicine physician, educator and leader in the medical field.
“From the beginning of our relationship, Dr. Kikano has talked about the CMU College of Medicine’s mission to provide quality health care in underserved areas,” Provost Michael Gealt said. “He was able to tie his experiences and the initiatives he has led to that mission. His selection as one of America’s best doctors comes as no surprise, and I congratulate him on this outstanding accomplishment.”
Before joining CMU’s College of Medicine, Kikano was the Chair of Family Medicine and Community Health for over 12 years and is the founding director of the Weatherhead Institute for Family Medicine and Community Health at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
