CMU, AFSCME ratify five-year contract

Agreement effective July 11, 2017, through June 30, 2022

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1568 and Central Michigan University have ratified a new five-year collective bargaining agreement. AFSCME Local 1568 represents the university's 191 service maintenance employees, which include custodial, groundskeepers, skilled trades, warehouse and powerhouse workers, and others.

Key terms of the agreement, which is effective July 11, 2017, through June 30, 2022, include:

  • Current wage rates will remain the same in the first year of the contract, however custodians paid at $10.08 per hour as of June 30, 2017, will receive a $750 lump sum non-base payment.
  • Percent of health care premium supported by the university remains at 87 percent in the first year of the contract.
