Central Michigan University's commitment to veteran education has once again been recognized by U.S. News and World Report with three of its programs ranking among the best 25 in the nation. CMU also maintained its leadership in this area among Michigan institutions.

"Central Michigan University's expertise in developing high-quality online undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs that meet service members' needs is apparent with our programs being ranked in the top 25 as best online programs for veterans," said Peter Ross, vice president of CMU's Global Campus, which oversees the university's online programs.

CMU's rankings among the 737 programs evaluated:

  • No. 5 best online graduate education programs for veterans – CMU tied with one other school as the fifth best online graduate education program for veterans and was the only Michigan institution in the top 10 in this category.
  • No. 12 in best online bachelors programs for veterans – CMU tied with the University of Florida and Utah State University for the No. 12 spot and was one of only two Michigan institutions ranking in the top 25.
  • No. 22 in U.S. News' first-ever ranking for best online MBA programs for veterans – CMU tied for the No. 22 spot with Rochester Institute of Technology and West Virginia University and was the only Michigan institution in the top 25.

To be ranked, institutions must be certified for the GI Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program and offer federal initiatives that help veterans reduce the cost of school. Institutions also had to be among the top 75 percent of schools in the overall 2015 Best Online Programs rankings, which were released earlier this year, to be ranked.

CMU also has been named to Military Advanced Education's list of Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities for the past eight years.

CMU's Global Campus, which oversees the university's online programs, has nearly 40 locations in the U.S. and Canada, including 20 military bases. CMU has been a pioneer in distance learning since 1971, when it introduced educational opportunities for students and adults at satellite campuses in areas where they live and work.
