CMU mourns loss of student in hit-and-run accident

​​​A Central Michigan University student died in a hit-and-run accident around midnight as he walked along Crawford Road near Concourse Drive south of campus. The victim remains unidentified pending notification of relatives.

The freshman was a resident in Merrill Hall.

Tony Voisin, associate vice president of student affairs, said the investigation by Michigan State Police is in its early stages and few details are known. 

Staff members in Merrill Hall and adjacent residence halls are responding on site to support students as they hear the news, and counselors from the CMU Counseling Center are available as well. Anyone wishing counseling or assistance should call Listening Ear at 989-772​-2918.


Michigan State Police have issued a news release seeking the public's assistance in identifying the driver of the car. Police say witnesses describe the vehicle as being older and dark-colored with four doors.

State Police say the vehicle is likely to display damage to the front passenger side and was headed north on Crawford at the time of the accident.
