​Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, April 30, to Wednesday, May 6, include:

Word Hammer slam poetry competition — Thursday

Central Michigan University's English language and literature department will host a Word Hammer slam poetry competition from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in Moore Hall's Townsend Kiva. Contact Samantha Dennis, 248-767-8756.

Formula car display — Thursday and Friday

Central Michigan University's Society of Automotive Engineers' Formula team will have their car on display from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Engineering and Technology Building's lobby. It is the first Formula car built at CMU, and the team will enter it in competition in mid-May against 120 international teams. Come learn about its speed, durability, design, business model and other attributes from team members. Contact Rob Wang, 989-774-1198.

Foreign Language Day competition — Friday

Central Michigan University's foreign languages, literatures and cultures department will host its 43rd annual Foreign Language Day competition. Students will participate in song, dance, poetry and interpretive reading, skits, cultural displays, and poster competitions judged by CMU faculty and students. Morning competitions will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Pearce Hall, Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium and the Bovee University Center. Afternoon performances and award presentations will take place at 1:15 p.m. in Plachta Auditorium. Contact Sarah Buckley, 989-774-3341.

Maroonziee music and arts festival — Friday

Central Michigan University's Program Board will host Maroonziee, the Gentle Friday music and arts festival, from noon to 4 p.m. in Finch Fieldhouse. This free event will feature complimentary food, music, massages, a photo booth, canvas painting and more. Contact Kalynne Defever, 810-623-0349.

Toledo vs. Central Michigan University softball game — Friday

The University of Toledo Rockets will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. in Mount Pleasant. Food and refreshments will be served on the softball party deck during the game to CMU faculty and staff in celebration of Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. Call 989-774-3041.

Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan University baseball game — Friday

The Northern Illinois University Huskies will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 3:05 p.m. at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant. A student pregame tailgate will take place at 1:30 p.m. with giveaways, trivia, snacks and games. Call 989-774-3041.

Gus Macker Basketball Festival — Saturday

Students from Central Michigan University's recreation, parks and leisure services administration department will host the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Festival from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. around Finch Fieldhouse. This year's theme is "Gus Goes Grease," and more than 250 teams are expected to participate. Contact Tim Otteman, 989-774-7312.

Bowling Green vs. Central Michigan University softball game — Saturday

The Bowling Green State University Falcons will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 2 p.m. in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan University baseball game — Saturday

The Northern Illinois University Huskies will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 2:05 p.m. at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant. The 23rd annual homecoming for baseball alumni will take place at this game. Call 989-774-3041.

Bowling Green vs. Central Michigan University softball game — Sunday

The Bowling Green State University Falcons will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan University baseball game — Sunday

The Northern Illinois University Huskies will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1:05 p.m. at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant. This game will celebrate Senior Day, Fan Appreciation Day and Kids Day. Call 989-774-3041.

Network for Women Book Club luncheon — Wednesday

Central Michigan University's Network for Women Book Club will host a brown bag luncheon to discuss Laura Lippman's book, "What the Dead Know," from noon to 1 p.m. in Bovee University Center 223. Contact Kim Gribben, 989-774-2367.

Michigan vs. Central Michigan University baseball game — Wednesday

The University of Michigan Wolverines will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 4:05 p.m. at Theunissen Stadium in Mount Pleasant. This game will celebrate Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. Call 989-774-3041.
