Central Michigan University’s online student publication Grand Central Magazine was awarded the prestigious 2018 Online Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press.
“I think the award is reflective of the quality of work of the students on the Grand Central staff, their storytelling skills and their hard work in general,” said Steven Coon, journalism faculty member and advisor of Grand Central.
“It's also a reflection of the quality of what they learn here at CMU in the journalism, broadcast and cinematic arts, integrative public relations and other programs, which they apply in the storytelling we do in Grand Central.”
Jordan Price, senior and editor in chief of Grand Central, said the award is really an ode to Grand Central’s audience for inspiring the content of the publication.
The Pacemaker Award is a well-known honor in collegiate journalism. Submissions are judged on the publication's coverage and content; quality of writing and reporting; and leadership, design, photography and graphics. This is Grand Central’s first time receiving a Pacemaker Award.
