"I know the kinds of things that exercise can do for people, and that exercise is medicine," said Samantha Mentus, a Central Michigan University
exercise science major from Laingsburg, Michigan.
She's part of a team of
Honors Program students who created and hosted an educational event at CMU to talk to fourth graders about cardiovascular health.
As part of an honors capstone project, the four CMU students created the FITT program to help grade schoolers understand the importance of cardiovascular health.
FITT stands for frequency of exercise, intensity, type of activity and time.
"Exercise at such a young age is super important," Mentus said, adding that she values learning to deliver that message as an undergraduate.
