Outstanding seasons by Central Michigan University's basketball, football and wrestling teams during the 2014-15 season led to the CMU men's athletic program being named the best in the Mid-American Conference. CMU was awarded the Reese Trophy as the top program for the third time in program history and the first since 2007.
The men's basketball program also has recently received prestigious honors, primarily for performance off the court. The National Association of Basketball Coaches presented the team with the Team Academic Excellence Award for excelling in academics through the 2014-15 season. With a cumulative spring semester grade point average of 3.05 and an overall cumulative GPA of 3.15, CMU is one of fewer than 20 NCAA Division I men's basketball programs to carry a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.
Along with the team honor, five players were honored for academic success. Chris Fowler, Austin Stewart, John Simons, Blake Hibbitts and Milos Cabarkapa were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. CMU was the only MAC institution to place more than two members on the team.
