Michigan State University Interim President John Engler this afternoon announced Kathleen M. Wilbur has been appointed executive vice president for government and external relations. She will oversee government relations, communications and development functions at MSU, starting Monday.
Wilbur has worked at Central Michigan University since 2002, most recently as vice president for government and external relations. She served an interim role as CMU's 13th president, between Michael Rao and George E. Ross.
Wilbur worked for Engler when he was governor of the state of Michigan, directing three departments during her tenure there: Consumer and Industry Services; Commerce; and Licensing and Regulation. She was elected to the MSU Board of Trustees in 1984 and served through 1990.
"I thank Kathy for her service to CMU and wish her well in her new role," Ross said. "I hope she can be instrumental in helping MSU heal and move forward."
"I love CMU," Wilbur said. "I love who our students, faculty and staff are."
Ross said he is in the process of determining next steps and will communicate further details as he has them.
