​​​Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Jan. 22, to Wednesday, Jan. 28, include:

‘In Our Family’ exhibit — through Jan. 30

Central Michigan University’s Multicultural Academic Student Services office will host the free traveling exhibit, “In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families,” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Jan. 30 in Bovee University Center Room 108. Contact Quentin Davis, 989-774-7318.

Civil rights documentary showing — Thursday and Friday

Central Michigan University’s Multicultural Academic Student Services office will host a free showing of the documentary “Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years” as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Week at 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Bovee University Center Room 108. MLK student and faculty/staff charity basketball game — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Multicultural Academic Student Services office will host a student and faculty/staff charity basketball game as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Week at 6 p.m. Thursday in the CMU Student Activity Center’s Small Sports Forum. Soup and Substance luncheon — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s diversity education office will host a free luncheon and discussion on the topic “Are We Living in a Dream World?” at noon Thursday in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. Contact Bernie Cesena, 989-774-3945.

‘Always There’ stalking awareness program — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Sexual Aggression Services office will host a free stalking awareness program, “Always There,” from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Contact Megan Varner, 989-774-6677.

‘Safer Sex’ bar patrol — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center will host a free educational “Safer Sex” bar patrol from 9 to 11 p.m. Thursday. Groups will depart from Bovee University Center Room 118 at 9:30 p.m. Contact Anjanette Haggard, 989-774-7685.

Primary Visions Foundations Art Show — Friday

Central Michigan University Libraries will host a free exhibit showcasing student work from CMU’s art and design department Foundations Program through Feb. 20 in Park Library’s Extended Study Hours and Third Floor Exhibit areas. Click here for hours. Contact Janet Danek, 989-774-2165.

Akron vs. Central Michigan University women’s basketball game — Saturday

The University of Akron Zips will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Eastern Michigan vs. Central Michigan University men’s basketball game — Saturday

The Eastern Michigan University Eagles will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

22nd annual Unity Ball — Saturday

Central Michigan University’s Multicultural Academic Student Services office will host the 22nd annual Unity Ball as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Week at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. 24th annual ‘A Night of Louisiana’ — Saturday

Central Michigan University’s Public Broadcasting and University Events offices will host the 24th Annual “A Night of Louisiana” evening of Cajun food and music from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Finch Fieldhouse. Purchase tickets through CMU Ticket Central, 989-774-3045.

Northern Iowa vs. Central Michigan University wrestling match — Sunday

The Northern Iowa University Panthers will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Speak Up, Speak Out ‘World War D’ forum — Monday

Kent State vs. Central Michigan University women’s basketball game — Wednesday

David Garcia Project Open Session — Wednesday

Central Michigan University’s Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center will host a free David Garcia Project Open Session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday for those interested in participating in activities that simulate learning difficulties and auditory, physical or visual impairments.
