Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, July 31, to Wednesday, August 6, include:

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Day — Friday

The College of Science and Technology at Central Michigan University will host an open house Friday in the Engineering and Technology Building. High school students and prospective transfer students will have the chance to learn about careers in biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and atmospheric sciences, engineering and technology, geography, mathematics, physics, and pre-professional programs. The day offers the opportunity to attend an academic showcase presentation highlighting specific areas of study, take a guided campus tour, enjoy lunch in a residential restaurant and attend a Student Services fair. "From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine and History" Exhibit — Monday through Sept. 13

An exhibit promoting understanding of the dynamic relationship between microbes, technology, science and medicine will be on display beginning Monday in Park Library's Baber Room. Drawing from the collections of the National Museum of American History and the National Library of Medicine, the display centers on how microbes have altered human history. Many of the pieces illustrate life forms such as bacteria, yeasts and molds that can cause sickness, restore health, or help produce foods and beverages for human consumption. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

College Exposure Men's Basketball Camp — Friday and Saturday

Central Michigan University Athletics will host a College Exposure Basketball Camp for grades 7 through 12 Friday and Saturday. Designed for serious players interested in competing at the college level, this camp will consist of drills, contests and games with instruction provided by college coaches from various levels. The cost is $199 for those staying in residence halls and $149 for commuters. Register online at by midnight July 30. Walk-up registrations will be accepted from noon to 1 p.m. Friday.
