Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, March 13, to Wednesday, March 19, include:

 

Third annual Central Michigan RV Show

Central Michigan University will host the third annual Central Michigan RV Show from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, through Saturday, March 15, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in Finch Fieldhouse. There will be more than 70 new and used RVs from Camping World. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Home Builders Association of Central Michigan Home Show

Central Michigan University will host the 2014 HBACM Home Show from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 14, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in the CMU Indoor Athletic Complex. The home show will feature the latest trends in home construction, remodeling and financing and there will be special appearances by HGTV’s John Gidding on Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16. Entry is $4 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

 

Pie Day

The Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center is hosting its second annual Pie Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, March 17. Participants can stop by the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center and enjoy a piece of pie, make a recycled cardboard notebook and partake in a “green” activity in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Supplies are limited.

 

Soup and Substance: Micro-Aggression in Isabella County

The Office of Diversity Education will host a Soup and Substance: Micro-Aggression in Isabella County from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Presentation by author William Rapai

William Rapai, author of “The Kirtland’s Warbler: The Story of a Bird’s Fight Against Extinction and the People Who Saved It,” will give a talk at 7 p.m. Monday, March 17, in the Park Library Auditorium. He will tell the story of the Kirtland Warbler and how leadership, vision, commitment, sustained effort and cooperation can come together to protect our natural world. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

 

Emmy Award-winning documentary “Getting There: Jump Rhythm Jazz Project”

Central Michigan University will host a showing of the Emmy Award-winning documentary “Getting There: Jump Rhythm Jazz Project” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Park Library Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Faculty Excellence Exhibition

Central Michigan University will host a faculty excellence exhibition from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Park Library Auditorium. The President’s and Provost’s awards, Excellence in Teaching awards, Faculty Distinguished Service Award and the Lorrie Ryan Memorial teaching award will be presented.

 

Psychic Fair

CMU Program Board will host a psychic fair from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. There will be five psychics offering palm readings, tarot card readings and more. The event is free and open to the public.

 

The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger’s

Temple Grandin, animal scientist and autism self-advocate, will speak from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in Finch Fieldhouse. She will address issues of autism faced every day by parents, teachers and individuals on the spectrum. A book signing and reception will follow her talk.

 

American Rhythm Dancing: The Joyous Art of Misbehaving lecture

Billy Siegenfeld, Jump Rhythm Jazz Project’s artistic director, will give a lecture from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Park Library Auditorium on American rhythm dancing and the joyous art of misbehaving. The lecture is free and open to the public.
