Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Nov. 20, to Wednesday, Nov. 26, include:

Bear Necessities children’s program — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Museum of Cultural and Natural History will host a free Bear Necessities children’s program from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in Rowe Hall. K-6 students will explore the world of bears through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and more. Space is limited. Contact Sheree Hall, 989-774-3829.

Benthic invasive species biology seminar — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s biology department will host Scott McNaught for an “Effect of Benthic Invasive Species on the Nearshore Food Web of the Great Lakes” seminar from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Hall 203. Contact Rob Wang, 989-774-1198.

Harvest Dinner in residential restaurants — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s campus dining will host a Harvest Dinner in all residential restaurants from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Contact Pamela Miller, 989-774-7726.

Team Up, Eat Up, Fire Up celebration — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s recreation, parks and leisure services administration department will host a school spirit celebration of music, food, raffles, games and activities from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Finch Fieldhouse 110. Purchase a wristband for $2 prior to the event or pay $3 for admission at the door. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Michigan. Contact Kelsey McConnell.

Psychic Fair — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Program Board will host a free Psychic Fair from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. Contact Kelsey McConnell.

Open house for Ph.D. in educational leadership — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s College of Education and Human Services will host an informational open house about its Ph.D. program in educational leadership from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in EHS Building 422. RSVP online or contact Frim Ampaw, 989-774-1745.

Iowa State vs. Central Michigan University wrestling match — Thursday

The Iowa State University Cyclones will wrestle the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 7 p.m. Thursday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Relay for Life information session — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Colleges Against Cancer student organization will host an informational Relay 101 session about how to become a Relay for Life team captain from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center Mackinaw Room. Contact Erin Miller.

The Light of the Labyrinth performance — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s communication and dramatic arts department will host a free performance collaboration of dance, light and poetry at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Moore Hall’s Theatre-on-the-Side. Contact Heather Trommer-Beardslee, 989-774-4305.

Guest artist Nicholas Goluses recital — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music will host a free guitar recital by guest artist Nicholas Goluses from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Purchase tickets through CMU Ticket Central, 989-774-3045.

Furs, Foreigners and Flints children’s program — Friday

Central Michigan University’s Museum of Cultural and Natural History will host a free Furs, Foreigners and Flints children’s program from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in Rowe Hall. Side by Side student art exhibit — Friday through Dec. 13

Central Michigan University’s art and design department will showcase works by fine art students from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in the University Art Gallery’s main gallery. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 13. Contact Anne Gochenour, 989-774-7457.

Thematically Challenged, Visually Enhanced student art exhibit — Friday through Dec. 13

Central Michigan University’s art and design department will showcase works by art students from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in Park Library’s Extended Study Hours area and the University Art Gallery’s west gallery through Dec. 13. Contact Anne Gochenour, 989-774-7457.

Central Michigan University surplus sale — Friday

Central Michigan University will sell surplus items including equipment, furniture and supplies to the public from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Surplus Sales Building, 275 W. Bellows St. Call 989-774-3917.

Fossils! I Can Dig It! children’s program — Friday

Central Michigan University’s Museum of Cultural and Natural History will host a free Fossils! I Can Dig It! children’s program from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in Rowe Hall. K-6 students will dig up bones, fossils and other mysterious objects. Space is limited. Contact Sheree Hall, 989-774-3829.

Maine vs. Central Michigan University men’s basketball game — Friday

The Western Michigan University Broncos will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Kentucky vs. Central Michigan University women’s basketball game — Saturday

The University of Kentucky Wildcats will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 8 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Chorus and orchestra concert — Saturday

Central Michigan University’s Festival Chorus and orchestra will present Mozart’s Requiem conducted by Nina Nash-Robertson from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium. Purchase tickets through CMU Ticket Central, 989-774-3045.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Central Michigan University men’s basketball game — Sunday

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Tuba/Euphonium and Trumpet ensembles concert — Sunday

Corneille/Nesbitt art exhibit — Monday through Jan. 5

Central Michigan University’s Park Library will host a free art exhibit of Enchantment De L’ete by Corneille and Les Fleurs Du Mal by Lowell Nesbitt from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in Park Library’s Baber Room. “Smoke Signals” movie showing — Monday

100 Word Short Story contest reception and display — Tuesday through Dec. 12

Central Michigan University’s English Language Institute will announce winners of the 100 Word Short Story contest from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Bovee University Center room 221.
