Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Oct. 23, to Wednesday, Oct. 29, include:

Soup and Substance luncheon — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s diversity education and Native American programs offices will host a free luncheon and discussion about Disability Awareness Month and Special Olympics at noon Thursday in the Bovee University Center Terrace Rooms. Contact Cheryl Merryman at 989-774-7318.

Author Keith Widder talk at Clarke Library — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library will host “Beyond Pontiac’s Shadow” author Keith Widder for a free guest lecture as part of its Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Thursday in Park Library Auditorium. Guest lecture by historian Wilma King — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s history department will host historian Wilma King for a free guest lecture titled “African-American Women and Children in the Civil War Era West of the Mississippi River” as part of the George M. Comedian Katie Meyer performance — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Program Board will host stand-up comedian Katie Meyer for a free performance at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center Student Lounge. Contact Brett Hadwin.

“Legends of the Dark” haunted campus tours — Thursday and Friday

Central Michigan University’s Residence Hall Assembly will host hourlong “Legends of the Dark” haunted campus tours from 7:30 to 10:20 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Tours depart every 10 minutes from the Down Under Food Court in the Bovee University Center. Tickets are $3 in advance at Trout Hall or $5 at the door. Contact Ann Krzyzaniak at 989-774-3104.

Faculty artist Adrienne Wiley concert — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music professor and pianist Adrienne Wiley will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Purchase tickets through CMU Ticket Central or call 989-774-3045.

Ohio vs. Central Michigan University women’s soccer game — Friday

The University of Ohio Bobcats will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 3 p.m. Friday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

“Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus” Halloween celebration — Friday

Central Michigan University’s recreation, parks and leisure services administration department will host a family friendly Halloween celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in Finch Fieldhouse. Contact Mary Konieczny.

PRISM concert — Friday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music’s wind bands will perform a free concert with the CMU Marching Band at 8 p.m. Friday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Contact John Jacobson at 989-774-3738.

Ohio vs. Central Michigan University field hockey game — Saturday

The University of Ohio Bobcats will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

“Get Colorful for Kids” fundraising event — Monday

Central Michigan University’s recreation, parks and leisure services administration department will host a Twister game fundraiser for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Finch Fieldhouse. Admission is $4 per person. Contact Kaleroi Kastros.

Activist R.J. Mitte talk — Tuesday

Central Michigan University’s Program Board will host co-star of “Breaking Bad” and equality and diversity activist R.J. Mitte for a free talk from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium. Contact Kelsey McConnell.

Faculty artist Casey Robards concert — Tuesday

New Venture Competition workshop — Wednesday
