Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Oct. 30, to Wednesday, Nov. 5, include:

Open house for Ph.D. in educational leadership — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s College of Education and Human Services will host an informational open house about its Ph.D. program in educational leadership from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in EHS Building 422. RSVP online or contact Frim Ampaw at 989-774-1745.

Faculty artists Marybeth Minnis and Lindabeth Binkley concert — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music bassoon artist Marybeth Minnis and oboe artist Lindabeth Binkley will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Purchase tickets through CMU Ticket Central or call 989-774-3045.

Central Michigan University surplus sale — Friday

Central Michigan University will sell surplus items including equipment, furniture and supplies to the public from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Surplus Sales Building, 275 W. Bellows St. Call 989-774-3917.

American Red Cross blood drive — Friday

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from noon to 5:45 p.m. Friday in Kulhavi Hall rooms 141 and 142. Contact Lindsay Chesebro.

Men's and Women's Cross-Country: MAC Championships — Saturday

Central Michigan University’s men's and women’s cross-country teams will participate in the MAC Championships at 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverwood Resort Golf Course in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Native American Heritage Month: Environmental Awareness Day — Saturday

Central Michigan University’s Native American Programs office will host a litter cleanup of campus from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. Groups will meet in the Bovee University Center room 108. Contact Cheryl Merryman at 989-774-2508.

Eastern Michigan vs. Central Michigan University football game — Saturday

The Eastern Michigan Eagles will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Kent State vs. Central Michigan University field hockey game — Saturday

The Kent State Golden Flashes will play the Central Michigan University Chippewas at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041.

Jazz Central concert — Sunday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music’s Jazz Central will perform a free concert under the direction of professor Rob Smith from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Contact John Jacobson at 989-774-3738.

Jazz Lab 1 concert — Sunday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music’s Jazz Lab 1 will perform a free concert under the direction of professor Rob Smith from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Contact John Jacobson at 989-774-3738.

Librarian Michael Unsworth talk at Clarke Library — Monday

Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library will host retired librarian Michael Unsworth for a free guest lecture about “The Memories of Early Michigan” as part of its Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Monday in Park Library Auditorium. Chamber Winds concert — Tuesday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music’s Chamber Winds faculty/student ensemble will perform a free concert under the direction of professor John Williamson from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Contact John Jacobson at 989-774-3738.

Guest lecture by football coach Herman Boone — Wednesday

Central Michigan University’s physical education and sport department will host American high school football coach Herman Boone for a free guest lecture as part of the Marge Bulger Sport History Lecture Series from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium. Native American heritage Pinterest party — Wednesday
