​Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Oct. 9, to Wednesday, Oct. 15, include:

Artist Bruce Thayer exhibit and opening reception — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s art department will host a free exhibit and opening reception showcasing the works of painter and alumnus Bruce Thayer from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the University Art Gallery. The exhibit will run through Nov. 8. Contact Anne Gochenour at 989-774-7457.

The Washington Center Internship Program informational session — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s political science and public administration department will host an informational session about The Washington Center Internship Program at 5 p.m. Thursday in Anspach Hall 155. Contact Joyce Baugh at 989-774-3475.

“Oakton High Homecoming Dance, 1999” theater performance — Thursday

The University Theatre company at Central Michigan University will present “Oakton High Homecoming Dance, 1999,” written by alumnus Randall Colburn, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Moore Hall’s Theatre-on-the-Side. Central Michigan University Faculty Jazz Combo concert — Thursday

Fiction and poetry reading — Thursday

“Latino Americans” documentary showing and discussion — Thursday

YMCA Michigan Youth in Government conference — Friday

Galápagos Islands research seminar — Friday

Sexual Aggression Awareness exhibits — through Oct. 31

Central Michigan University Libraries will host two free exhibits, “The Clothesline Project” and “Spoken,” about the realities and myths surrounding sexual aggression.
