Central Michigan University hosts more than 500 events each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Highlighted events from Thursday, Sept. 18, to Wednesday, Sept. 24, include:

Al Wildey to open the “Photography: Process, People & Preservation” exhibit — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library will open the free exhibit “Photography: Process, People & Preservation” at 8 a.m. Thursday. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through January 2015. A Speaker Series talk about the history of photography given by Department of Art and Design professor Al Wildey will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Park Library Auditorium, and a reception will follow.

Guest artist Andreas Klein concert — Thursday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music will feature guest pianist Andreas Klein in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Call Ticket Central at 989-774-3045 to purchase tickets.

Audiology Lecture Series  — Friday

The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University will host guest speaker and audiologist Carol Flexer as part of the sixth annual Audiology Lecture Series from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in Bovee University Center Room 302. Central Michigan University vs. IPFW women’s soccer game  — Friday

The Central Michigan University Chippewas will host the Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne Mastodons at 4 p.m. Friday in Mount Pleasant. Call 989-774-3041 for more information.

Hypnotist Joshua Seth performance — Friday

Central Michigan University’s Program Board will host hypnotist and award-winning performer Joshua Seth at 7 p.m. Friday in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Guest artist Sharon Sparrow concert — Sunday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music will feature guest flutist Sharon Sparrow in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Call Ticket Central at 989-774-3045 to purchase tickets.

“Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap” film showing — Monday

Central Michigan University’s Program Board will show the film, “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap” at 4 and 7 p.m. Monday in the Park Library Auditorium to kick off Hip Hop Week. This event is free and open to the public.

Soup and Substance and Speak Up, Speak Out forum — Tuesday

Central Michigan University will host an open forum, “Ferguson to Mount Pleasant: Police, Race and Life on Campus” at noon on Tuesday in Bovee University Center Room 221. Contact Andrew Blom for more information.

Hispanic Heritage Month food and music celebration — Tuesday

Central Michigan University’s Multicultural Academic Student Services office will host a food tasting of Hispanic cuisine and a live mariachi band at 5 p.m. in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. Faculty artist Neil Mueller concert — Tuesday

Central Michigan University’s School of Music Professor Neil Mueller will be joined on stage by Canadian trumpeter Aaron Hodgson for a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Music Building’s Staples Family Concert Hall. Call Ticket Central at 989-774-3045 to purchase tickets.

“Antarctica Expedition - CMU” exhibit opening — Wednesday

Central Michigan University’s Park Library will open the exhibit “Antarctica Expedition – CMU” at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Park Library’s Baber Room, where a reception also will take place at 6 p.m. This free exhibit showcases images taken by CMU Department of Biology scientists and students from their 2013 Antarctic expedition.
