March 1, 2021 - 8:45 p.m. — At approximately 5 p.m. today, authorities were alerted to a potentially combustible chemical substance in an isolated container within the Central Michigan University's Dow Science Building. No injuries were reported, the building was quickly evacuated and the Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to investigate. They then called in the Michigan State Police, who assisted in safely and properly disposing of the container.
The Dow Science Building and surrounding area have been cleared and are once again safe to enter.
CMU's Office of Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, along with the Office of Lab and Field Safety, will investigate the incident to ensure safety protocols were followed.
