The Society of Professional Journalists has recognized Central Michigan University’s student newspaper for excellence in journalism in 2017.
Central Michigan Life
won first place
for Region 4 — Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania —
in the following categories:
Grand Central Magazine, CMU’s online multimedia student lifestyle and features publication, won first place for
best independent online student publication.
First-place winners will compete at the national level against the other 12 SPJ regions this spring. National winners will be recognized at the Excellence in Journalism conference in Baltimore, Maryland.
CM Life also was a finalist in editorial writing, general column writing, feature photography and best all-around non-daily newspaper. Its print edition comes out twice weekly during the academic year.
