Behind the scenes: CMU students create fashions for Threads

Collections class helps students create runway-ready collections

A group of fashion merchandising and design students have spent the spring semester researching, creating and producing a fashion collection as part of "Creative Design/Collection Development," a course taught by CMU faculty member Shermane Fouche.

"This is the first time I've done this class," Fouche said. "We felt that the students needed to have a true venue to develop a collection for Threads."

Fouche has been guiding the students in creating a cohesive themed collection for the 17th annual Threads Fashion Show, which takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in McGuirk Arena. Threads provides a platform for aspiring apparel designers and for other students desiring experience in the numerous aspects of fashion production. General admission is $16. Tickets may be purchased through Ticket Central.

Last summer, CMU's fashion merchandising and design program earned high marks in rankings released from Fashion-Schools. In fashion merchandising, the program was ranked 34th nationally and ninth in the Midwest. For fashion design, the program was ranked 40th nationally and 12th in the Midwest.
