Information for Faculty and Staff

As part of the 125th Anniversary Celebration, CMU will hold it’s inaugural New Student Convocation to officially welcome new students to their academic career. The goals of the ceremony are to create a greater sense of belonging for our new students, emphasize the importance of their academic work, convey our commitment to support them as they pursue their education and familiarize them with CMU’s traditions and customs. The ceremony will include an academic processional and recessional, with speakers to include the president, the provost, faculty and alumni.

Faculty, P&A staff and Senior Officers are invited to participate as a member of the side platform party for this exciting event. If you would like to participate, please complete the online registration form by Friday, August 4, 2017.

Academic Apparel

All platform party members must be dressed is academic regalia. If you do not have your own apparel and need to rent please contact the CMU Bookstore at (989) 774-7490. Apparel can be picked up at the CMU Bookstore during the below dates and times. Following the ceremony, apparel must be returned to Media Room in the lower level of the Events Center.

Convocation Instructions

All participants should plan to arrive to the John G. Kulhavi Events Center by 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26th. Parking for faculty and staff is available in lot 61, located west of the Events Center. Upon arrival, faculty and P&A staff should report to the Media Room (lower level). Senior Officers should report to the Upper Club Lounge. Marshals and staff members will be available to assist in processional line up.

Following the ceremony, please return any rented apparel to the Media Room in the lower level of the Events Center.
