Focusing on diversity and inclusion

Each one of us plays an important role in enriching our CMU community – one where people from different backgrounds appreciate differences and learn from other perspectives. If we don’t get out of our comfort zones, if we don’t ask the hard questions, then we don’t get better. — President George E. Ross

CMU students hail from 43 states and 60 countries. We’re all different, with races, identities, faiths and viewpoints that combine to make our community strong and vibrant.

In December, CMU started “Walking Together,” a proactive conversation about diversity, inclusion and forging connections with each other.

A deeper look at diversity and inclusion is underway through focus groups with students, faculty and staff. Research and planning continues this fall, and a team of CMU faculty and staff will be appointed to implement new efforts in 2017.
