2015-2016 Reaffirmation of Accreditation

I encourage you to participate – CMU exists as an outstanding national university because of you and it will be through your input into the reaccreditation process that CMU will describe who we are and define who we want to become.

Central Michigan University has initiated our process of accreditation review by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.  This process occurs once every decade.  This is a review of all facets of the university, including academics, infrastructure and resources. The review has many parts, including a confirmation that our university is following all required Federal policies resulting from Title IV of the Higher Education Act; this assurance is necessary for CMU to continue receiving Federal financial aid for our students.

The process of preparing for the review provides a valuable opportunity for the entire CMU community to reflect upon the progress we have made since the last visit and to engage in discussion of where we want to go in the future.

In April of 2016 a team of peer reviewers from HLC will visit CMU.  This team will learn about CMU from documents we are currently preparing.  These documents are being developed to assure HLC that we:

  • Are being guided by our university mission
  • Act with integrity in all our functions
  • Provide a high quality education
  • Are continually improving the education we provide
  • Have the structures and resources to carry out our mission now and into the future

A multi-disciplinary team has been drawn from across the university to prepare our documentation.  This team is lead by Dr. Claudia Douglass, Vice Provost for Academic Effectiveness. The team will hold many engagement meetings requesting your input to the documents.  As part of the review process we also want to receive comments from our external stakeholders.  They will be notified through an official process in mid-October.

Thank you for making this time of reflection and self-study a valuable experience.
