Best Practices for Curriculum Committees

Engaging Members

Consider designating committee members to be responsible for the following areas when reviewing curriculum proposals:

  • Evaluate the impact of changes on time to graduation.
  • Review grammatical issues that may lead to approved edits versus returns.  Edits that are blatant grammatical errors should be made during the committee meeting and NOT sent back to the initiator.
  • Determine the affect on other departments and programs.  This is an area that can stop a proposal in its tracks!  If there are objections to a proposal by another department it can delay the approval process for weeks.
