Dominican School Days

Megan Gracik - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

M Gracik Student Teach in DR 1.jpgAs an Elementary Education student, I found it hard to find the opportunity to study abroad, but I knew I always wanted to. When I discovered that a portion of my Student Teaching could be done abroad, I couldn’t have been more excited.  My experience took me to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The program was about five weeks long and provided us with the experience to live with a host family and teach in a nearby school. The program gave me and the other participating teachers the opportunity to go on many exciting weekend excursions and to experience as much of the unique culture and history of the Dominican Republic as possible.

We used the knowledge of African animals gained in our science unit to create coloring books for the children of the orphanage.
