International Education Week

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the U.S. government's efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences. Held in November of each year, CMU offers a variety of programming and outreach in support of IEW.

International Language Videos

Are you an international student or a study abroad alumni? Or you can speak a language other than English? The Office of Global Engagement wants to highlight the many languages spoken in the CMU community. Can you present yourself in your native language and tell us about yourself? Have you learned any special poem, proverb, or saying you want to share via another language?

Submit a language video of you and/or family or friends speaking any language other than English that reminds you of home. Be sure to share the culture and history of the language you are speaking and any other fun facts that would help educate viewers when watching your video. John Updike once said, "Creativity is only a plus word for normal practice. Every activity becomes innovative when the doer cares to do it good or better."

  • Videos must be kept to 2 minutes or less.
  • Must have English subtitles if the video is done in another language.
