The Office of Study Abroad works with international organizations that place students in internships around the world. It is possible to request a full-time internship or a part-time internship combined with coursework. Students will work closely with a study abroad advisor and a faculty advisor to ensure that the internship placement meets CMU requirements. It is important to apply early and meet application deadlines. Please be aware that international internships are unpaid.
3.0 GPA or above.
Excellent recommendations from faculty.
Must have completed at least 3 semesters of university coursework.
Some sites may have additional requirements that will be explained by your Study Abroad Advisor.
Depending on the full-time internship program chosen, accommodations will be either in a shared apartment, hostel, or with a host family. Meals are usually self-catered. For students participating in a study program with a part-time internship, please see the accommodations provided on the program brochure page for that study site.
All internships must be approved for credit. Students work with a faculty advisor in the academic department to request approval for the internship, establish the requirements to be fulfilled, and determine the number of credits to be earned.
