International Student Advisory Board

​​​Central Michigan University's International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) was established to provide the Office of International Affairs with direct input on matters of concern and importance to the international student population at CMU. The ISAB will be the representative voice of international students focusing on areas that directly impact their academic life, social activities and adaptation to CMU and the Mount Pleasant Community. The members will provide the OIA with feedback in the areas of student programming, orientation, campus culture and the university website information. In addition, members​ will share suggestions and recommendations to their issues and concerns to the OIA.
The members of the ISAB will consist of international students interested in becoming leaders within the international student body and the CMU community. Applications will be accepted for the academic year. Requirements for membership include:
    • International Student Status
    • Good Academic Standing
    • 1 year remaining at CMU
    • Submission of ISAB application

Applications are due by Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 and members will be selected and notified by Friday, September 30th. Please submit applications to Megan Hofer at

Meetings will generally be held on the first and third Fridays of each month and members will be expected to attend each meeting. The first meeting will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2016.

Douglass International Student Essay Contest

The ISAB is excited to announce a new Essay Contest for International Students. The Douglass International Student Essay Contest is an opportunity for international students to demonstrate their writing talents and compete for the opportunity to win a prize. This year’s first place prize winners will receive a $250 CMU Bookstore gift certificate and second place winners will receive a $100 CMU Bookstore gift certificate. Please note that these awards may be subject to US taxes.

The topics for the first annual contest are:

  1. What I like about Central Michigan University
  2.  What I like about Mount Pleasant.

Essays are limited to 400 to 600 words per topic and one entry per student. The deadline for submission of the typed entries is April 20th at 5:00 pm. Essays must be submitted by email to
