Health and Safety

Central Michigan University offers a wide variety of study abroad programs to provide academic and cultural experiences to students in all fields of study. Because the health and safety of our students while abroad is important to us, we monitor issues around the world. The Study Abroad Health and Safety Committee reviews significant changes in-country to determine if a site is reasonably safe.

Students attend an orientation meeting on campus offered by the Study Abroad staff and also have access to an online orientation program. In addition, information and resources to prepare students to travel, live and study outside of the United States is provided in the Study Abroad Handbook. Upon arrival in-country, students will attend the orientation offered by the host institution. It is very important that students attend these orientations and read information provided.

Students and families are encouraged to review our Travel Resources page to read about how to prepare to study abroad.

More information to prepare to study abroad can be found in our Study Abroad Handbook.
