Central Michigan University, the CMU Native American Programs office, and the on-campus North American Indian Student Organization (NAISO) offer many programs, presentations, and resources to increase greater understanding and appreciation of indigenous cultures and traditions.

CMU Native American Programs
The Native American Programs office is responsible for organizing various cultural events, maintaining a Native American resource collection, recruiting Native American students, serving as the university liaison with tribal communities, and providing training to students, faculty, and staff. It also offers a support network for Native American students and provides financial aid consultation and academic advising services. During the past five years, the number of self-identified Native American students attending CMU has consistently been around 220 students.

North American Indian Student Organization (NAISO)
This organization provides a social setting for Native American students to gather, and it helps organize cultural events and learning opportunities to educate members of the area community about the customs and cultures of Native Americans.

American Indian Studies Certificate
This minor brings together courses in Ojibwe language, history, literature, anthropology, psychology, and sociology to provide a course of study focusing on the Native American experience. This program is designed to meet the growing demand of students from culturally diverse backgrounds for academic programs that address their heritage and enhance cultural self-awareness.

Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver
The Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver is a law resulting from treaty negotiations that, under certain conditions, provides education to Native Americans at no cost in exchange for the acquisition of Native lands.
