Diversity Charges

Significant progress has been made in addressing Former President Michael Rao’s directives regarding campus diversity since the passage of Proposal 2 in November 2006. All of his 22 directives that support the CMU Board of Trustees Dec. 7, 2006 resolution to enhance diversity at CMU have been addressed.

Dr. Denise O'Neil Green assumed the role of Associate Vice President for Institutional Diversity in July 2007. Dr. Green coordinated efforts to address the final directive of updating and implementing the university’s Strategic Plan for Advancing Diversity.

The responses posted in the January 14, 2009 update have been received and accepted by the president. While several charges have come to their natural conclusion, others remain a part of CMU's diversity priorities, and therefore, are central to the institution's Strategic Plan for Advancing Diversity. In this final diversity charges update, the responsible officer/s share the status of a particular change at the conclusion of Fall 2008. In this report, the charges are in bold and updates are in blue type.

Dr. Carolyn M. Dunn succeeded Dr. Green as the Associate Vice President for Insitutional Diversity and Inclusion in 2014 and in preparation for updating the Strategic Plan for Advancing Diversity as the Strategic Plan for Institutionalizing Diversity commissioned an update in the study The Climate for Diverse Student Populations on Campus  (2015) and the Climate for Women and LGBTQ Students on Campus (2015), conducted by Dr. Mary Senter. The reults of these studies will be posted to this site very shortly.
