OIT provides several different offerings for file storage requirements to the campus community.
All active faculty, staff, and students have access to a private home drive that automatically mounts on all central domain computers as the U drive. It may be accessed by non-domain systems, either on-campus or through the VPN, by mapping a drive to \\UDrive\gid$ and providing your central domain credentials.
The base departmental offering is for those offices with modest storage needs (less than 5 GB) and comprises a share on a centralized fileserver with access controlled by a domain security group. This storage is backed up nightly to a different building on campus.
For greater storage needs, OIT can allocate large amounts of space in 100GB increments attached to either a departmental or centralized server. This storage is access-controlled and backed up like the base offering and is available for $60/100GB/year (FY 2012-13 pricing).
Please note that this storage is iSCSI and may not be appropriate for high I/O workloads.
