Virtual Lab Configuration

Please Note, Virtual Lab Instructions Have Been Updated

The preferred Connection Server is now virtuallab.cmich.edu. If you already have the VMWare View client installed, please update your configuration settings.


Windows

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.

  2. Visit the web site: https://virtuallab.cmich.edu

  3. If you are directed to a certificate error page, click Continue to this website (not recommended).

  4. Click the View Client for Windows link. From the list of available client options that appears, locate the VMWare View Client for Windows section, click the View Download button that matches your version of Windows (either 32-bit or 64-bit), and then click the Download button on the individual client page.

  5. When you are prompted to Run or Save the file, click Save.

  6. Once the file has been saved, click Run to start the installer.

  7. Click Next > until you are prompted to enter  Default View Connection Server. Enter virtuallab.cmich.edu as the server.

  8. Click Next >. Un-check the "Show in connection dialog" and "Set default option to log in as current user" boxes.

  9. Proceed though the rest of the installer. Click Install and then Finish.

  10. If you are asked to restart your computer, choose Yes.

  11. Once your computer has restarted, launch the VMware View Client. There should be a shortcut located on your Desktop.

  12. Choose virtuallab.cmich.edu as the Connection Server and click Connect.

  13. Enter your Global ID and password in the fields provided. Choose CENTRAL as the Domain.

  14. Click Login.

  15. Choose the CMU VDI desktop and click Connect.

  16. Your computer will now connect to the Virtual Desktop.

Mac

  1. Open Safari.

  2. Visit the web site: https://virtuallab.cmich.edu

  3. If you are prompted with to verify certificate identity, click Continue.

  4. Click the View Client for Mac OS link. From the list of available client options that appears, locate the VMWare View Client for Mac section, click the View Download button, and then click the Download button on the individual client page.

  5. The  file will now start to download. Once complete, it may be necessary to open the Downloads folder in the Dock, and click the VMWare-View-Client.dmg file to proceed. When prompted, click Agree to accept the software license terms. A VMware View Client window will now display.

  6. Open the Applications folder. Click-and-drag the VMware View Client icon into the Applications folder. This will save the application on your computer.

  7. Once the VMware Client has been copied, Eject the VMware disk image on your desktop. (Ctrl + click > Eject)

  8. Within the Applications folder, double-click the VMware View Client icon.

  9. Click Open if you are prompted with a warning.

  10. Click the Add Server icon. Enter virtuallab.cmich.edu as the Hostname, and click Continue.

  11. Enter your Global ID and password in the fields provided. The domain is CENTRAL.

  12. Click Continue.

  13. Select the CMU VDI desktop and click Continue.

  14. If you are prompted to allow the connection, select Always Allow.

  15. Your computer will now connect to the Virtual Desktop.
