Technology Transfer and Commercialization

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) promotes a culture of innovation at Central Michigan University and works to protect and commercialize inventions created by researchers. Its scope of activities includes guiding faculty through the invention process, acting as a liasion with Central Michigan University Research Cooperation (CMURC) and the College of Business Administration, processing invention disclosures, assessing technologies for protection and commercialization, filing patent, copyright and trademark protection on select technologies, marketing and licensing CMU discoveries, execution of Material Transfer and Confidentiality Agreements, and fostering CMU entrepreneurs.

ORSP works in close collaboration with CMURC. While ORSP helps with the paperwork and legalities of inventions/ideas, CMURC can help by offering supportive programs, helping withy product development, conducting a market asessment, and business consulting.
