Central Michigan University has a long and proud tradition of excellence in teaching. The faculty of Central Michigan University have maintained this tradition by setting high standards in demanding competence of all its members.
At the same time, however, there are occasions when faculty members exceed the usual standards and expectations. The Academic Senate believes that such occasions and such individuals should receive special recognition and is therefore establishing the Excellence in Teaching Award.
Excellence in Teaching Awards (FaCIT)
The President's and Provost's Awards recognize two senior faculty members and two junior faculty members for outstanding research and creative endeavors.
The PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY recognizes the achievements of senior faculty members. To qualify, one must be a tenured faculty member with at least seven years of post-doctoral experience and be currently employed at CMU. In selecting recipients for this award, the selection committee will consider the nominees' research and creative activities throughout their careers, including accomplishments prior to coming to CMU. No faculty member can receive this award more than once.
The PROVOST'S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY recognizes the achievements of less experienced faculty members. To qualify, one must be a tenured or a tenure track faculty member with less than seven years of post-terminal degree experience (i.e., terminal degree received no earlier than 2000) and currently at CMU. A nominee’s research and creative achievements prior to coming to CMU will be considered in the selection process. No faculty member can receive this award more than once.
President's Award & Provost's Award - ORSP
Michigan Campus Compact annually recognizes outstanding community service and service-learning by faculty and staff of our members. The FACULTY SERVICE AWARD is given to one person at CMU who engages or influences students to be involved in community service or service-learning through modeling, influence, or instruction.
Faculty Distinguished Service Awards (FaCIT)
The purpose of the PROVOST'S ASSESSMENT INCENTIVE AWARD is to encourage departments and councils to use assessment data for program improvement. Departments or interdisciplinary councils that clearly demonstrate how they used assessment data to improve an academic program or student success may apply for a $5,000 incentive provided by the provost which will be matched by the appropriate dean's office. This commitment from the Provost is for $5,000 awarded to a maximum of 5 departments or interdisciplinary councils each year for 3 years (2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014). At that time, the incentive program will be reviewed to determine its effectiveness.
