Welcome

A message from Dr. Mary C. Schutten

As Central Michigan University’s executive vice president and provost, it is my privilege to work alongside President Davies and with CMU’s academic leaders and faculty to provide transformative learning opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I also support and promote faculty and student research and creative endeavors and seek opportunities for engagement with CMU’s community partners, nearby and around the globe.

Our mission is to prepare students to be leaders with the knowledge, skills and values to live and work in an increasingly global society.

At CMU, this kind of learning takes place within the classroom, on campus and in the global community. Students engage in deep, thoughtful conversations with faculty and fellow students. They also work alongside faculty to conduct research, produce plays, build robots, create art, predict the weather and much more.

Students explore new languages and cultures through study abroad and build powerful professional skills through internships, clinicals and community-based projects. CMU students can pursue their passions, explore careers and meet new people through any of nearly 400 registered student organizations and clubs. Through it all, they become ambassadors for CMU’s core values of integrity, respect, compassion, inclusiveness, social responsibility, excellence and innovation.

As Provost, I work extensively with the College of Business Administration; the College of the Arts and Media; the College of Education and Human Services; The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions; the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; the College of Science and Engineering; and the College of Medicine. I also oversee many units in the academic division that play key roles in student and faculty success, including Academic Administration, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Libraries, and the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.

I’m proud to be part of this community of scholars, and I hope you will enjoy learning more about Central Michigan University. I invite you to explore our site and see all that CMU, a leading national university, has to offer.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary C. Schutten
