The parties met for two days this week and reached agreement on many items. The parties deserve credit for collaborative progress and hopefully the momentum will continue when they meet again for two days next week. The goal remains for the parties to reach an agreement that is fair and reasonable for all in our academic community – the students, the faculty and the administration, and to do so before the current contract expires at the end of this month.

The bargaining teams
met and exchanged proposals on many articles, most of which seek clarification
or process simplification. Productive discussions have been had on all of
these issues and the parties remain situated for further conversations when
they meet for two more sessions next week. The conversations have been
cordial, thorough, and candid. The Administration remains confident that the
dedicated, professional approach demonstrated by both teams will lead to the
Administration and FA reaching a fair and equitable contract by the expiration
of the current labor agreement.

Representatives of CMU's administration and the Union representing tenured and tenure-track faculty concluded two additional bargaining sessions this week. During the two sessions, the groups met for nine hours, signed tentative agreements pertaining to 15 articles, exchanged a number of proposals, and agreed to future meeting dates while working towards a successor to the current labor agreement which expires on June 30.

Today, representatives of CMU's administration and the union representing its 633 tenured and tenure-track faculty met to begin bargaining a successor to the labor agreement slated to expire on June 30. During the 5-hour bargaining session, each party summarized the issues they wish to address during negotiations. The parties will begin reviewing detailed proposals at their next session, which is set for May 23.
