Kelly J. Nack

Learning Media Designer/Graphic Designer

Kelly joined the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning team in the summer of 2005. An alum of CMU, Kelly earned her undergraduate degree in Graphic Design and Photography in 2002. Kelly has been working in various design and technology capacities at CMU, and also as a freelance graphic designer and wedding photographer for nearly two decades.

Kelly enjoys helping faculty to communicate visually and accessibly to enhance the effectiveness of their teaching. She is a strong believer in Universal Design for Learning and urges all faculty to proactively consider the full range of learners on the front end as you design your course materials. Kelly can help you course evaluate your existing course materials (or create new ones) to find the optimal balance of text, media and visuals to your classroom. She is a firm believer that a thoughtful balance can improve recall and retention of information, make difficult concepts more clear, and relieve stress and tension in the classroom for all of your students.

Kelly's daily duties include course material layout, presentation consultations and custom templates, custom visuals and illustrations, charts and graphs, and research poster design. Kelly also provides faculty with course material and presentation tool recommendations including PowerPoint, Sway, Word, Google Apps, Haiku, Prezi as well as their pros and cons from an accessiblity standpoint.

Whether you are looking to polish established materials for your classes, create professional posters of your research, or need help finding ways to visually represent difficult concepts to your students, she would love to work with you.

Outside of work

Kelly enjoys reading, exploring the outdoors, attempting tasty gluten-free cooking, traveling and honing her photography skills. ´╗┐Her interests in her faith, community engagement and education keep her active in her local community connecting the under-resourced to needed services and sharing meals together.
