En-Bing Lin, Mathematics

Dr. En-Bing Lin is Professor Mathematics in the College of Science and Engineering.  His leadership has helped to transform the department into one of the most productive departments in research at CMU. He also had an important role within the Multicultural Academic Student Services by coordinating the supplementary instruction program and helping to establish several foundation mathematics online summer camps for incoming freshmen. He has served on several university committees, supervised seven Ph.D. students and worked with thirty-two undergraduate students working on various projects within the past eight years.
Dr. Lin was on the summer graduate school committee for the academic sponsorship of Mathematical Science Research Institute (MSRI) at Berkeley for several years - chairing it for two. He also served as associate editor for six scholarly journals and has given keynote speeches and professional presentations at numerous regional, national, and international research conferences in over eleven countries.
Through his contact with the local public high school, the mathematics department provided some activities for high school students and made a connection for a faculty member to create a service learning class for CMU students.
Dr. Lin’s commitment to engagement, outreach, and advocacy as well as his many service contributions have been exemplary, and have proven him to be an inspiring figure to his department, college, and to CMU’s students.
