In the book, How to Create and Use Rubrics for Formative Assessment and Grading (Brookhart, 2013), a rubric is a defined as a "coherent set of criteria for students' work that includes descriptions of a performance quality on the criteria" (Kaplan & Owings, 2013, p. 84). In short, rubrics allow for objectivity in grading. In this section, 17 resources are provided that explain and provide examples for how to create and use rubrics for assessing student work. The VALUE rubrics for assessing oral presentations, writing, and teamwork are also included.
