ALTO - Simulation/Role Playing

Introduction

The power of a simulation lies in students learning how something that might seem very straight forward in a textbook or on paper, is actually very complex in real life. Students are forced to apply their content knowledge to a situation in which they have an assigned stakeholder role. Simulations are also easy to use in a classroom because almost anything can be simulated. Some common examples of simulations include a mock trial (real or fictional), a stock market game, or some of the different types of gamification in the classroom.
